1st Anniversary in Washington DC

Welcome to our Home at Mt Vernon. May I introduce you to my husband, Mr. George Washington and I am Martha Washington. We have a wonderful view from the piazza of the Potomac River, let me show you... haha...April Fools!

It was no April Fool's joke, that we spend our 1st anniversary in Washington DC over the weekend. :) Charles and I took off Thurs afternoon to head up to Washington DC and stayed through Sunday. We were lucky enough to crash at Charles's cousin's "English Basement" for the entire weekend. Liz and Justin, Liz is Charles's cousin and Justin is her husband, live in Adams Morgan and both work at DC area museums. There is so much to "blog" about, but I wanted to get the link the pictures up as soon as I could. The pictures tell the chronological story of our trip. There are captions on the pictures as well to explain where and what we will looking at.

The short version of the trip on my end goes like this... my favorite by far is the Holocaust Museum, followed by the "feel" of the city and having a good mix of planned stops and not so planned stops. But of course, the best part above all, was that Charles and I went somewhere special and now have wonderful memories of our 1st anniversary.

Enjoyed your pix. Like a ride on the wayback machine. 1976 and 1982. Nice thing about historical areas, they look the same, save for the new war monuments and spacecraft... I think that was Alan Shepard's iron, tho. Your hair is sooooo cute.

Chaz, Lisa and Kelly, remember our trip to DC? I remember so much of our trip with the poptop camper and all the places we went to via CC's photos. What was your favorite memory? Mine was Charlies' money, thank God.

Thanks Chaz... I like my hair too, but I think it needs a little shape up soon.

I talked to Chandra yesterday. Her family is taking a trip up to DC this weekend. Then, Chris and Al are going up to DC for a trip too! How fun! I told them to check out the Hotel Washington and call ahead and get advance tickets for the Washington Monument. Oh, and for sure, have the Parker kiddos fly a kite on the Mall!

Momma, of course I remember that trip. I recall most your skill and deftness at driving and backing the van and poptop camper. I also have a memory of how you'd read the NY Times where ever you could get it. And, just doing all the cool touristy sites in DC. Hopefully we didn't complain too much for you. I didn't know about you running out of money and borrowing from Chaz until years later.

I had forgotten the money thing, too. I remember seeing the homeless person outside the Air and Space Museum eating food culled from the trash bin next to the food carts. Others noticed, urging someone to buy a hot dog and gingerly set it on top of the trash for them, rather than a more direct approach. Loved the counterfeit money display at the Treasury building.

Chaz, Lisa told me about the homeless man outside of the Air and Space Museum too on the phone. It seems like you both remember that experience pretty vividly.
