Here's a short burb of what we did in Washington DC in 48 hours!
Dad and Colleen toured the Air and Space Museum out by Dulles Airport (Udvar Hazy), not on the Mall, on Thursday morning. AC and I met up with them at their airport hotel and went into DC. Caught a quick dinner, then hopped on a Gray Line tour bus to view all the hot spots (monuments and memorials) at night! From start to finish, we saw everything, but stopped along the way at Jefferson, FDR, Lincoln, Vietnam Wall, Koren War, Iwo Jima, White House and WW II. Thursday night during the tour, we battled some rain.
Friday, after breakfast and purchasing Metro tickets, we headed out to Arlington Cemetery to see the Kennedy grave site, Tomb of the Unknown Solider, changing of the guard, and the Arlington House. After spending much of the afternoon there, we had to hustle to catch the last tour of the Capitol Building from the new Visitor's Center. After viewing a fab movie about the beginnings of our country, we followed our tour guide (now, you always have to be with a guide in the Capitol Building) to see the rotunda and the old Supreme Court chambers.
Saturday, we had breakfast, chatted and drove to the US Botanic Garden on the Mall. We all agreed that this is a gem on the Mall. Wonderful place just in front of the Capitol Building. On the way home, we stopped at a favorite seafood place of the Mimms and dined on seafood fare! They dropped me off in Durham, and then drove on to Pinehurst!
